new privacy

I was unaware I was actually so accurate when I wrote my article « Knowledge, power, and the subjects of privacy: Understanding privacy as the ally of surveillance », published in 2014 in the Information, Communication & Society journal. The new privacy commissioner of Switzerland is the former vice-director of the Swiss Federal Police. He was chosen in total secret. The extreme right-wing party of Switzerland, both xenophobic and ultra-liberal, says that they would have preferred someone closer to the economic circles. A very explicit example of how privacy is now exploited to serve politic and economic interests rather than protecting values like freedom and common good.
